Wine Institute’s leadership was key to a successful eighth meeting of the APEC Wine Regulatory Forum (WRF), held on Oct. 10-11, 2018 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Government officials and wine sector representatives from 14 APEC economies participated including: Australia, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, United States and Viet Nam. Two FIVS observers also attended.

The meeting targeted current trade barriers such as onerous certification requirements. Delegates learned that many of the requirements on a Certificate of Analysis do not demonstrate the safety, authenticity, and quality of a wine. Another highlight included a presentation on the APEC Model Wine Certificate which incorporates several common wine certificates in one, saving wineries time and money. You can learn more about the topics discussed at the WRF meeting by reading the official meeting statement.
